Bought new Hayward T-Cell-15-SWP on Amazon (Pool Supply Warehouse) for $649. Installed today. Instant salt reading only went up to 2800 when actual is 3400. But I can see the full jet of fine bubbles at the first return. Old cell was not creating any bubbles.

Water was not crystal clear. Hair nets were full but not terrible. Put SWCG on super chlorinate and saw no bubbles. Computer reads 2600 when salt is 3200. Checking on ordering a new T-Cell-15. Difference in readings was noted much of last year also. Turned cell to 0 and will chlorinate with 10% liquid chlorine for now.

$105.00 on Dry Stabilizer
CYA purchased from BackyardPoolSuperstore.com. Created account. Same price as Amazon but with no tax. Purchased 2 - 25 lb bags because the price was $105 vs. 1 - 25 lb bag for $60.
Angel's Pool Service blew out lines. $240 + antifreeze. Added bleach, mixed with brush. Put on cover with Jodi - pulled over the water.

Filter pressure before closing. 1725 RPM 7 PSI, 2070 RPM 10, 2243 RPM 12 PSI, 2760 RPM 17PSI, 3105 RPM 21 PSI. These pressures are up over 100% from July 3rd cleaning. Cartridges seem to get fairly clean (meaning July pressure was pretty low after cleaning) but pressure seems to rise quicker than it should. Replace cartridges in the spring. No need to clean them this fall since they are being replaced. Emptied basketball hoop with suction tube, then turned base over to drain the rest. SWCG amps are 4.4 and current salt is 2900. This is a better % of current vs. tested than earlier. Though its still low. Amps are lower than when water temp was 80 earlier, but I don’t know if water temp affects amps. Current water temp is 53. Cell is still producing at 53.

Had been seeing occasional flakes from the SWCG. Though this has mostly gone away keeping the pH down lower. But I did inspect the cell and could see some accumulation on the end plate. Cleaned with a water/MA mix. Bubbled for several minutes. Also decided to plug the old pressure side cleaner return to increase flow from the other three returns on one line. Worked great. Was able to lower the speed of the VS pump presets by about 2 settings each. Now speed 1 is 1750 RPM and 160 watts. I believe it was 2080 and about 300W?

Skimmer wier in deep end had gotten tight where it would get stuck open or closed, occasionally causing air to reach the pump. Then one day one of the legs of the wier cracked off and was in the skimmer basket. I ordered two replacements from Amazon. Hayward SPX1082K. They were the same model number but different designs. I used the one that was different from the existing design. It snapped easily into place and floats open and closed easily now.

Added MA by pouring it on the leading edge of the dam wall. There was some calcium scale forming there. I did two pours and it is all gone. Next time, I would recommend spraying a diluted mixture on selectively as it did seem to loosen the surface of the mortared edge a fair amount. But it was effective.

Added CYA via the skimmers as usual. Later saw some CYA coming from the returns. Along with some flakes that were knocked loose from the salt cell. Need to clean the salt cell. Not sure if there is an issue with the cartridges.

Cleaned filter. 30 minutes. Remember to place system in Service mode so filter doesn’t kick on. Clean pressure - 3105 RPM 8, 2070 RPM 4. Whining noted before cleaning is gone. Pressure from jets is better too.

Filter started whining this afternoon. Had not checked pressure lately. On 3105 RPM it was 18 and 2070 RPM it was 8. I will rinse the cartridges tonight. Not sure if I have clean pressure noted with this pump.

We were away for 12 days. Pool was set to 30% for 4 hours and covered. Water temp was 85. FC rose from 12 to only 13.5. So this is the setting to use going forward on summer vacations. Also, I did forget to place the cover pump on the cover so water accumulated on the cover and may have kept the pool cooler. There was some algae on the cover which I brushed before opening.

Cleaned and sealed autocover. Here is a post I created to explain the process...I use 303 Aerospace Protectant. A gallon has lasted for 3 times so far. Probably enough for 4 times. I seal every 2-3 years. I feel like every year might be best but until this year, I hadn’t perfected my technique so it was kind of a pain. I wash it first. I use car wash but dish soap would also be fine. I put spray some water with the soap and use my nylon bristle pool brush from the sides. 1 hour tops, much of which is spraying or brushing the water towards the cover pump. Let it dry completely. Then I have a orange fake chamois towel that I wraparound the nylon pool brush and use a string wrapped around it to secure it and tie with knots. Then I pour the protectant along the sides and brush over sections at a time. When done, I remove the rag and manually do the edges making sure to really get the fabric seam at the sides. Looking at it now I think a few hours in good sunshine for it to dry and soak in is good. You‘ll get the hang of how much is enough to use. You don’t want to overdue it. I’ll hit the front of the leading bar after I roll it up. The edges and the part over the dam definitely seem drier than the flat portion before sealing. I always keep my pump in the same place since it creates a nice dirt stain. I don’t try to remove it. I just scrub evenly all over then seal that dirt ring in. My cover is charcoal and the dirt ring is dark grey to black, so it matches!

Opened pool. Took cover off from deep end closing autocover one section toward pavillion side of last tight strap. Boys held first loose strap to allow autocover to slide under. Folded cover back halfway, then the other so autocover and mesh cover could dry. Clear water, small amount of leaves and worms. Removed return plugs from pool, brushed steps and coves. Ran robot on two cycles. Did not hook up pump yet. Water was 2” below tile.

160 lbs of Salt
45 oz of Dry Stabilizer
12 lbs of Calcium Chloride
Opened Pool! Water 1 1/2” on the tile. (10” more). Total precipitation in pool since close is 29”. Closed autocover while removing winter cover. One section beyond last attached strap. Cover did get a little wet. Some worms, some leaves, clear water and a lot of pollen on surface. CH of 60 - In 2018 opened at 270. Didn’t test rest of season (out of reagent). From then til now drop seems reasonable. Most additions last year were from rain and a rainy winter. NOTE: Next day test for CH after adding tells me this test wasn’t correct. Same for salt. Cleaned out skimmers using small shop vac. Emptied after each skimmer. Used hairnets on skimmers. Had to replace one by equipment after about 1 hour as pump started sucking air on high. Replaced them both at the end of the day. Pump was loud before, but after 4 hrs on high, was making some noises. Put on low and more wired noises. High pressure 10, Low pressure 0. I don’t have notes on what pump was running since last summer’s replacement of pressure gauge.

90 oz of Baking Soda
The baking soda addition was to try and increase pH. It was the wrong product. That is sodium bicarbonate. I should have used washing soda/soda ash which is sodium carbonate (which I don’t have). TA probably went up 10 unnecessarily. I only added it because I had lowered pH too much by accident.
