Pool was uncovered all day yesterday and swimmers most of the afternoon. FC took a hit as a result, as expected. Adding 69 oz. of bleach to get back up to "warm" target of 7.5 ppm FC. Everything else looks pretty good this morning. Thunderstorms in the forecast beginning around 3 p.m. this afternoon.

No swimming today. I had to work, and everyone else had things to do as well. The pool seems to be holding the numbers pretty well. That makes it easy to spot a potential problem before it gets ahead of me.

Brushed and vacuumed yesterday before a decent amount of swimming. FC was only 4 ppm this morning, which I kind of expected. It's been a few days since I had to add any bleach. Overall, everything looks pretty good today.Thunder showers forecasted for this afternoon and evening, so it will probably limit any swimming today. Adding 60 oz. of bleach to get back up to my "warm" target level of 7.5ppm of FC.

FC is at or near where I lke to run it. Just a little bit hot. This is my first pH test since I finished the SLAM last Thursday. Everything is looking real good. I will need to pull the solar cover and wipe it off. Still has some pine needles and "baby" cones on top. I'll get a good brushing and vacuum tomorrow morning, and we should be swimming by the afternoon.

Got a good, solid CYA test tonight. The dot totally disappeared at 40. Repeated the test several minutes later with the same result. I did not do a pH test yet, due to the test still showing above the recommended 7 FC. Should be able to test pH by tomorrow. the water is still looking great, but the cover has some pine needles, etc. that will need to come off before removing the cover to brush and vacuum the pool.

SLAM is finally complete. This morning we had no FC loss and .5 CC. The water is crystal clear with not a speck of dirt showing on the floor of the pool. I think that the brushing yesterday was the answer to the puzzle. I brushed 3X and changed out the skimmer socks after each time. I think that I got whatever was able to hide with the first brushing because the hairnet in the skimmer sock was very dirty after about an hour. I could see a little residue on the floor. I brushed everything again, trying to keep any algae in the water suspended so the chlorine could kill it. I went out again about an hour and a half later and changed the skimmer hairnet again. It was much cleaner. I could see 3 or 4 specks of debris forming in the depressions in the floor of the pool. I brushed thoroughly one more time with my clean hairnet in place. When I went out last evening to do my OCLT, I could see nothing on the bottom, and only a tiny bit of bugs in the skimmer sock. This morning everything was perfect. total chlorine used was just shy of 5 gallons. I will need some more reagents, but I got an order late last year of all three, just in case I opened to an algae issue. They have been properly stored, so I'm confident I am in good shape there.

There is a tiny amoun of sediment on the pool floor; probably was in suspension after my two hours of brushing and vacuuming yesterday. At any rate, we're close and will keep plugging until we pass the OCLT. adding 35 oz. of chlorine this morning to get back up to target.

Just finished brushing (X2), vacuuming (X2), backwashing (X2), and deep cleaning the filter. The water looks great, the walls and floor of the pool look really good, and the filter is back down to its normal 10 PSI. I just tested my water for the 1st time since 6:45 this morning, when I added 17 oz. of chlorine to get back up to SLAM level of 20. The test a few moments ago showed FC: 20.5 and CC: 0.5 with CYA: 50. Probably could stop the SLAM right now, but I'm considering getting one more OCLT this evening into tomorrow.

OCLT #3 is done, Sat night into Sun morning. Lost 1ppm of FC and .5 CC. Pool water is now very clear; I can now see the pattern in the floor all the way to the other side (whenever it isn't raining.) I plan to do another brush and vacuum today. For right now, the rain is supposed to quit around 11 am. I should be able to get the pool cleaned, as well as the ladder today. Then it's turn the heat pump back on and get ready to swim.

SLAM continues. Too cold and wet (and rain occassionally returns) to stand out there for over an hour brushing and vacuuming the pool. Losses of FC are getting minimal and CC's are holding steady at .5 all day. I'll do another OCLT tonight after dark and check my results in the morning. It looks like tomorrow will be a better day to get brushed and vac'd.

Began my SLAM this afternoon around 4 pm. Per Pool Math, I added 233 oz. of 10% bleach to bring us up to SLAM FC. I just tested it approx. two hours later and my FC is up to 24 ppm, not the 20 ppm I was shooting for. Iwill just let it fall back down to around the 20 range and monitor my FC from then on. The pool floor is much more visible toninght than it was this morning, but I can still make out some debris on the floor, even after what I thought was a very thorough vacuuming job last evening. I'll get a backwash tonight and do another brushing/vacuuming after testing in the morning.

Results of last night's OCLT: FC dropped overnight by .5 ppm. CC remained steady at .5 ppm. Today, I noticed the water felt slightly slippery. Might have been like that yesterday and went unnoticed because I wasn't suspicious then. Also, forgot to mention that the ladder has not been put in yet because I always disassemble and clean it. I haven't got that done yet for this season. No other objects are in the pool yet either. I will get 12 gallons of chlorine today at Wal-Mart and begin my SLAM. They still had remaining chlorine out last week and I don't want to use last year's stuff. A friend told me they had new stock out yesterday. Hopefully we caught this early.

Beginning of OCLT. While vacuuming this evening, I realized my water was actually cloudy. Even with a clean floor, it was looking kind of hazy. I tested my water, and decided to do the OCLT. The chlorine level had dropped a little from yesterday morning, but yesterday was very sunny and it was the first day the pool was uncovered. I run my FC at or near the top of normal range for my CYA level just to feel a little bit safer. I also fired up the heat pump this morning, with no issues.
Brought the heat pump online around 9:00 am this morning. We have gained about 4 degrees so far today, up to 69 now. My addition of CYA last evening is now showing as an increase from 40 up to 50 CYA. I added 72 oz. of bleach to bring the FC level back up to around 7-8 ppm. I'll test again before dark, if possible, to see if my addition brought us back up. Still have to do the brushing and vacuuming, but I'm gaining. On a good note, the pressure in the filter remains at 10 psi. Not much debris on the pool floor; it seems to be mostly blown-in silt in the "toe canyons." A good backwash, once vacuumed, will have us in good shape. I'll try to get my grandson to help me wrestle the solar cover on after dinner. That'll help the heat pump to gain a lot tomorrow, I hope.

Got the pool uncovered and opened today. Also hooked up the plumbing and added 18 oz. of stabilizer (sock method) to bring it up to 40 from the previous 30. I may have to add a bit more; I'll give it a few days to register on my tests. Better to have too little and have to add some more stabilizer, than to have miscalculated, and you have more than you thought.
I still need to brush, vacuum, and get the solar cover on. Also I will hopefully get the heat pump up and running tomorrow afternoon.

Should have the pool totally opened this coming week. I am adding chlorine today to get back up to 10 ppm, with a CYA of 30. Will circulate the water today with a submersible utility pump. Once the pool pump is reinstalled and fired up, I will add 20 oz. of stabilizer to get up to 40 CYA. Then it's time to get the pool brushed and vacuum the pool and get the ladder totally cleaned. Then re-test and adjust the balance as needed, and get ready to swim.

After adding 72oz. of 8% Bleach earlier this afternoon, I let the utility pump circulate the water for a few hours to dustribute the bleach and mix the water to get a better idea of water temp today. The bleach addition increased my FC to 7.5 ppm, and lowered my CC to 0.0 I removed the utility pump; we should be in good shape now until we hook up the pool pump, heat pump, etc. in a couple weeks. I am holding off on increasing my CYA until the water warms up enough to give me a reliable test reading. I don't want to overshoot CYA by getting in too big of a hurry.
