Pool is clear and sparkling. Added 1.25 cups of D.E. to skimmer basket anyway for good measure.

Removed old sand and cleaned out filter, lateral assembly, and multiport valve. Also cleaned out pump filter basket, housing, and lid. Removed some excess/squeeze-out silicone lubricant on pump basket lid and multiport valve.
Added 150lbs of new pool filter sand to filter and rinsed with hose until it all particles spilled out of the top and the water ran clear.
Set the multiport valve to Waste Out and reinstalled it on the sand filter. Filled the pump filter housing and dropped in the basket and installed the lid. Reconnected the plumbing and opened the skimmer and return valves.
Turned the pump on and let it run on Waste Out to clear the inlet line and valve and made sure the water at the end of the backwask hose was clear. Set it to Backwash and let that run for approx 3 mins, then Rinse for another minute.
Set the pump to Filter and will let it run this way continuously for a day or two, then will set it to run on a schedule depending on water quality/clarity, bather load, and frequency of backwashing.

Checked the condition of the sand. It felt a lot better and squeezing it didn't leave a sticky residue on my hand. I ran the hose down into the filter for around 30mins, prodding it around to agitate the sand and watched it until the majority of fine silt-like particles floated up and out of the top. I reinstalled the multiport valve and connections, then ran the pump while in backwash mode until the water in the sightglass looked as clear as it could.
Opened the sand filter and found the sand to visually look normal and relatively clean, but after grabbing some with my hand I found that it left a very sticky residue (biofilm/body-oil? flocculent/clarifiers? silicone lubricant?) on my hands.
Drained all of the water from the filter with the help of the wet vac on the winter drain. Replaced the winter drain cap, mixed a full bottle of filter cleaner with approx 5gal of water, enough to cover the top of the sand, and poured it in. Let this sit overnight for 10-12hrs. Will check condition of sand tomorrow. If still sticky, I will just replace the sand.
Added 16oz of Rapid Rinse Filter Cleaner very slowly to skimmer basket during backwash.
